Christmas Letter 2014

Another year is over already. It's hard to imagine that things have come so far. Let's recap the year.

I was able to start the new year with my family and my little niece. I was able to go to my parents' house and visit for the holidays. On the way back to Texas, I was able to visit David (my brother), Sarah (his wife) and Elsie (my niece). We spent the new year together with Anne (my cousin). We had a wonderful time before I headed back to the South.

Over spring break, I was able to go to Georgia and visit my good friend, Jeanne, and her family, along with some of my own family. I drove to Georgia and visited Jeanne at her new house in Georgia. Then, I traveled 4 more hours and visit my Gram at her house. I was able to see Uncle Tim and Auntie Ann as well. I toured Savannah, GA during the St. Patrick's day colored water time period. I enjoyed seeing my Gram and Savannah. Then, I went back to Jeanne's where I was able to also see Helen in GA and spend time at the travel agency she was working at. I thoroughly enjoyed my mini-vacation in GA!

I ended my teaching year of PreK-K with Montessori in June. It was a great year of learning many new things. I learned that I was going to be moving up in grade levels when the new school year started. I also found out that I would be keeping all of my kindergarteners. I was extremely excited to go back to teaching first grade, which I had taught already for two years and enjoyed it.

I began to move my classroom into my apartment since I couldn't leave it in my old classroom or put it in my new room yet. While moving my classroom in, I hurt my back. I had to enlist the help of Liz to get me to and from the chiropractor for the first week of treatment. I had to be on bed-rest for at least 2 weeks. That ate into my summer job time! However, I am happy to say that my back is better and the chiropractor was able to help me greatly.

I was able to go back and work at School For Little Children this summer in the office. At first, I thought it was only going to be able 2 or 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. Well, due to other circumstances throughout the summer, I was able to work more hours than that throughout the summer, which was so helpful in starting my classroom this year. I enjoyed working with the office staff and getting to see all of my old friends from the school again. I still feel so blessed to be able to work there each year because they helped me so much a couple years back.

Mom also was able to come visit me this summer. She was able to help me with some laminating, coloring, and working out. We had a lovely time! It was a great way to begin my mindset for the school year. I was able to have some other help setting up my classroom. Before school started, Elizabeth, Madeline, and Jillian were able to come to school and help me set up my room. We were able to shop for stuff, set up stuff, organize and decorate. I promise you, these lovely sisters were able to work miracles in my room. Without their help, my room would not have turned out as warm and kid-friendly as it did. I am so blessed to have had their help!

My school year with first grade has been great. It's tough and new again because standards changed it Texas since I was last in first grade, but it has been a good blessing. I live, sleep, eat, and breathe first grade and work, but it has paid off. I love my kids and they are doing so well, especially in reading. I have been so excited to watch them grow. Daily 5, a structure for my reading block, has really made a difference in my students and their ability to read. I love my first grade team. We work so well together and have great communication. This year, I have been blessed to get to know more of my co-workers as well.

Thanksgiving this year was spent in Pennsylvania in Lancaster. I was able to see all of the Schanck side of my family, including the new additions. I wasn't able to see two of my brothers, but I was glad to see the rest of my family. We even had some snow on the trip up there, which was so beautiful. God also gave me an added blessing! I had no ear pain on any of my plane flights!! This was amazing because normally I have horrible ear pain and go deaf in my left ear for 24 hours. I was in awe of His blessing when I had no problems on any of my four flights. God is good!

This Christmas season, I was able to again sing in the Christmas cantata at Winterfield United Methodist church. I also was given a solo. (Video of my solo)Liz was able to attend, which was great. I loved being able to sing and fellowship with the choir again. I will be spending Christmas with my Texas family, the Freemans. I also was able to attempt to cut my first live tree, but the blade was not sharp enough. Then, I was able to help string the lights and decorate the tree. It was a lot of fun, even though it was mine. :)

I pray that God has blessed you this year and will continue to bless you in this new year to come. Please remember the true reason for the season, the birth of Christ. Please keep me in your prayers as I continue to teach God's precious little gifts and our campus as they do the same. God bless and have a blessed year in 2015!!

Becky
