Christmas Letter 2009
Seriously, I cannot believe that it is already Christmas! Time just flew by me this year. I must say though that I am grateful that it wasn’t dragging by instead!
Jobs… I finished out the year working as a 2nd grade teacher. It was a tough year, although I did enjoy quite a few of my kids. My fellow colleagues and many friends, phone calls, and prayers got me all the way through. It was truly a learning experience, and God hitting me over the head with a 2x4! Y’all know how hard-headed I am, so I told God to do that when I needed a change. I guess I needed one. Around May or so, I got hired. Funny story behind that one: I had no clue what grade I was going to teach but I swore that I would not teach below second. God’s ways aren’t always our own, so guess what grade I ended up being placed in? First grade! Who would have thought? I love it though, although I thought that I wouldn’t. God knows me best! I have put a lot of time and effort into my classroom and my kids. I am enjoying getting to know my new coworkers, although I do miss my old ones as well. I also have been getting a lot of help in my classroom from my friend, who has been a Godsend! I would be so much more stressed and tired without her.
Life… I am still staying in the same apartment. It still doesn’t feel quite like home. Furniture is still not really happening yet. Mom says that will come with time, but we all know how patient I am NOT. I have some minor things, but not major stuff like couches, comfy chairs, bedroom stuff. I am on the hunt this coming year. Perhaps next year, I will have pictures to show you of it all to entice you to make the trip over here. I have already had some visitors. Uncle and Aunt dropped in during my spring break this year. It was nice to have a break from school and they even got to see where I worked. It was lovely and put a big smile on my face. They got to see the apartment and meet some of my friends and church family. It was nice to be able to have them worship with me in my church. We also were able to go bowling and out to dinner with one of my good friends. We definitely had fun and enjoyed the quality time spent.
Thanksgiving this year I went to Willow Valley with the family. I flew out on Tuesday were I was able to spend some time with Uncle and cousin (and a little bit with my other cousin). On the way to Willow Valley, we had an adventure because I got sick! I had thought I had gotten over those sick car rides, but to my credit, I had already felt bad that morning. We got to Willow Valley and I rest a while before we ate with the family. The rest of the week, I went in and out of being sick, but I got to spend time with the dad's side of the family, even some that I hadn’t remembered meeting. We did the usual tradition of meeting before dinner, reading scripture, singing some songs, and then going to eat some good food. I even manage to do some Black Friday sales shopping in Lancaster with my Mom! Overall it was a good trip, I just wish that I hadn’t felt so sick. The best part is that there will be videos to remember it all by… and I even got some old videos, which are very interesting. Watching old videos always brings new light to things we know about people now.
This year things started out quite discouraging and if you talked to me at all during those times, you know. I thought that things could never get better and I was ready to give in. But God kept me and took care of me through it all. Now I am somewhere I never thought I would be. I am in a place now where I love to work every day. I go above and beyond because I want to and I love it. My passion for my profession has come back. I hope that this letter finds you well and may God bless your holiday season and New Year. Do not forget the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus should be at the forefront of our minds, for without Him we would have no reason to celebrate. Please keep me in your prayers, as I do the same for you. Be sure to keep in touch. God bless!
